Score big on bulk buys: San Antonio's Goodwill Clearance Center offers treasure hunt shopping experience

SAN ANTONIO - Finding some of the best deals in the city can be hard, but the non-profit company, Goodwill has made it easy for people to score just about anything for less than $2 in bulk items.

Libby Castillo, spokesperson for Goodwill Clearance Center in San Antonio, provided insights into the distinct shopping experience at their facility. The center offers an opportunity for shoppers to buy items in bulk from constantly replenished tables.

The shopping process involves patrons grabbing a cart, exploring 18 tables filled with merchandise replenished every 30 minutes, and selecting items to put in their carts. After shopping, items are weighed, and the cost is determined at $1.69 per pound.

"Some of the really cool things that folks have found is, you know, a brand new pair of Ugg boots," said Castillo. "They found some artwork that's done by local artists that they were able to purchase here. antique toys, vintage toys, vintage games, electronics, you name it, we got it."

Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Shoppers must be 15 years or older.
Gloves are required for safety. You can purchase gloves in-store or bring your own.
You can bring your own basket or use the store's carts.

Castillo emphasized that proceeds from Goodwill stores, including the Clearance Center, support the organization's mission to change lives through the power of work. The Goodwill Careers Academy provides free education and training in various fields, contributing to community development.

The Goodwill Careers Academy offers free education for pharmacy technicians, nurse's aides, medical assistants, and CDL drivers.

"Through the generous donations of what the items that we get in the stores and that we sell in stores, we're able to provide these opportunities for our community." shared Castillo.
