Thrift shoppers and deal-seekers in the San Antonio area have something to celebrate this week. Goodwill San Antonio is expanding its reach with a new store and donation center just beyond San Antonio's Northeast Side, near The Forum at Olympia Parkway, according to a news release from the company.

Opening Thursday, October 5, Goodwill's Getaway store at 7693 N. Loop 1604 E., Live Oak, TX 78233, stands at over 25,000 square feet and features a modern layout for shoppers browsing the store's selection of clothing, accessories, and household items. For the location's donation center, the company included a two-lane drive-thru to help people move through the process at a brisk pace. There are also plans to invest in solar panels later this year, according to the news release.

The store will join over a dozen locations in the San Antonio area, including one of its newer stores on the Northwest Side and San Antonio's only bin thrift store, located on the Eastside. The company supports the workforce through vocational training programs and will employ more than 35 individuals at the new store, according to the release.

“Our new Gateway store is a prototypical design to help improve the shopper and donor experience,” said Carlos J. Contreras III, president and CEO of Goodwill San Antonio. “This location will better serve the city of Live Oak and surrounding areas, and further support our commitment to creating opportunities, transforming lives, and building a stronger workforce.”

There is a ribbon cutting planned for Thursday at 9 a.m., with appearances by Contreras; Eddy Salas, the treasurer of Goodwill Board of Directors; Dave Petersen, interim president and CEO of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; and Susan Brookes, general manager of the Gateway Goodwill store. Brookes is a former participant in Goodwill’s workforce development programs.

The ceremony will be followed up by the official grand opening of the store at 10 a.m. Once open, the store will operate Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the news release.
