Micah: A Story of Inspiration

At Randolph Air Force Base, Micah handles thousands of personnel records with precision. He checks for accuracy, updates information, and tracks the kind of fine details that some people might overlook. But not Micah.

Born with autism, Micah has faced challenges, but with Goodwill San Antonio he has also discovered strengths that have made him a valuable part of the Business Services Unit.

“I like it when things are in order,” said Micah, who enjoys the structure and repetition of his job. “It helps me think clearly.”

Micah didn’t always envision a career in records management. After graduating from Howard Payne University with a degree in History, he began his job hunt. With no leads, a family friend told him about Goodwill.

He applied and was hired as a Medical Records Associate, processing medical records for the U.S. Military. The work is meticulous and a perfect fit for a detail-oriented individual.

“I process documents for veterans,” said Micah. “I have to make sure everything gets entered accurately into the online database. It feels good to know I’m helping support those who’ve served.”

Through Goodwill San Antonio, Micah has discovered his purpose and built a career he’s proud of. As a graduate of the Goodwill Leadership Development Program, an initiative designed to cultivate emerging leaders, he continues to grow both professionally and personally within the organization.

“Goodwill gave me stability. It gave me confidence,” said Micah, who’s proud to have reached milestones that once felt out of reach, like paying off his student loans and car.

As we recognize Disability Awareness Month, Micah’s story reminds us about the importance of inclusivity in the workplace. At Goodwill San Antonio, Micah isn’t defined by a diagnosis. He’s known for his focus, his reliability, and his commitment to doing good work every day.
