After graduating high school, Juan fell in with the wrong crowd, starting a cycle of addiction that took over much of his life- costing him time away from his children and the trust of his family
When his father’s health began to deteriorate and money ran short, things spiraled even further. But one day, Juan decided he needed to change his life. “I’m the type of person that if I want something, I will make it happen,” Juan said.
At 47, Juan checked himself into rehab and joined Narcotics Anonymous. And what started as a step toward healing grew into something bigger– he began mentoring others who were fighting their own battles with addiction.
When Juan completed the recovery program, he was ready for a new start but didn’t know where to begin. That’s when a friend told him about the Goodwill Academy, a place where people receive free training and support to rebuild their lives.
Curious and determined, Juan enrolled in the Manufacturing Bootcamp program. There, he didn’t just learn technical skills, but he discovered a renewed sense of purpose. After completing the 6-week program, he landed a new job at Toyota Manufacturing.
“Thanks to Mr. Martinez, I have the confidence to walk into a room with my head held high,” Juan says, grateful to the instructor who believed in him when he needed it most.
