San Antonio’s workforce is evolving, and so is the demand for skilled workers. Manufacturing, once thought of as an industry of the past, is now at the core of innovation, spanning sectors like aerospace, advanced prosthetics, robotics, and more. Yet, many job seekers remain unaware of the opportunities available, while employers struggle to find skilled workers.
At Goodwill San Antonio, we continuously seek innovative ways to bridge this gap and help people access meaningful career opportunities. Earlier this month, we launched the Goodwill Manufacturing Bootcamp. This new workforce training program is designed to equip job seekers with the skills needed to thrive in today’s high-tech manufacturing industry.
Goodwill’s Manufacturing Bootcamp is located at The Neighborhood Place, a community hub dedicated to providing essential resources for families on San Antonio’s Westside. This fast-track, three-week training program provides foundational instruction in manufacturing, including blueprint reading, measurement, and safety practices—all essential skills for today’s manufacturing jobs.
Participants earn an OSHA-10 Certification and Certified Manufacturing Associate—two industry-recognized credentials from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers—making them strong candidates for in-demand positions. Best of all, this training is provided at no cost, ensuring that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of a brighter future.
Manufacturing is one of the largest industries in Texas, employing over 875,000 people statewide. In San Antonio and the surrounding area, thousands of positions remain open, yet many job seekers lack access to the training they need to fill them. By offering targeted workforce training programs like the Manufacturing Bootcamp, Goodwill San Antonio is helping build a talent pipeline that benefits both job seekers and local employers.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our community. Every donation and purchase made at Goodwill directly funds these workforce programs and allows them to be offered at no cost to those who need them the most. Together, we can ensure that everyone in the region has the opportunity to succeed through the power of work.
