May is Mental Health Awareness Month, an annual observance designed to reduce stigma, encourage early intervention, and foster empathy and understanding for those struggling with mental health issues.
At Goodwill, where our mission is rooted in the dignity and potential of every individual, we believe mental health support should be treated no differently than physical health care.
Today, mental health challenges are more common and more serious than many realize. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 5 adults in the United States experiences mental illness each year.
That is why, at Goodwill, we are dedicated to fostering the wellness of our employees by providing them access to free and confidential life skills counseling, which helps address personal and professional barriers.
Through our Life Skills Program, licensed professional counselors provide guidance and support in areas like personal relationships, self-esteem, finances, health, job readiness, and personal success. They also provide information and access to resources in the community to further support our team members. The goal is to foster a healthy and positive approach to challenges to ensure workplace success.
Our commitment to the well-being of our team goes beyond a paycheck. We believe that when people feel seen, supported, and valued, their potential is limitless. Our employee programs have transformed the lives of countless team members, empowering them to improve their quality of life. By investing in their growth and wellness, we are nurturing a workforce that thrives in all aspects of their lives.
As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s replace stigma with support. Let’s make mental health a visible, actionable priority—not just in May, but every day.
If you or someone you know is in need of support, the Center for Health Care Services operates a local 24/7 crisis line. Please call 210-223-7233.
