Goodwill San Antonio Inspires The Community To Donate On National Give Something Away Day July 15
Donations of furniture, electronics, and household items help local non-profit serve those in need.
(SAN ANTONIO – July 11, 2018)
Goodwill San Antonio is inspiring residents in San Antonio and the surrounding communities to “Keep up the Good Work” and donate a gently-used item on July 15 in recognition of National Give Something Away Day.
National Give Something Away Day celebrates the spirit of paying it forward and helping those who are facing challenges within our community. For those who are fortunate to have more than they need, donating is as simple as cleaning out the clutter lurking in a closet or garage and making a donation to Goodwill.
Every donation made to Goodwill helps provide education and training opportunities for those looking to find meaningful employment to include people with disabilities, veterans and military families, those who are unemployed or underemployed, at-risk youth, and many others facing barriers to employment.
“National Give Something Away Day represents the intrinsic joy that comes from providing a simple act of kindness. Donations made to Goodwill on this day or any day of the year help give a second life to a gently used item, and more importantly, a second chance to someone struggling in our community,” says Steven Hussain, chief mission services officer for Goodwill San Antonio. “Every donation is worth something to someone. A single item you may no longer need becomes the catalyst to empower someone else to realize their potential.”
Donating to Goodwill is both convenient and easy with multiple ways to make an impact. Donations of furniture, electronics, and household items can be made at any of Goodwill San Antonio’s 35 convenient donation stations. Goodwill also offers FREE home pickup services for bulky items and accepts donations of vehicles and boats in any condition. For those wanting to make a monetary contribution, donations can be made online at www.goodwillsa.org/donate.
In 2017, through donations and with the support of our community, Goodwill San Antonio:
- Provided skills training leading to certifications in high demand jobs for more than 550 clients.
- Placed more than 2,900 individuals with life barriers into competitive employment.
- Directly employed more than 1,400 individuals, many of whom would not have been able to acquire employment apart from Goodwill.
