Good Careers Academy offers affordable courses for maintenance technicians

SAN ANTONIO (June 25, 2015) — Area apartment complexes need qualified technicians to address electrical, plumbing and other routine maintenance issues at multifamily residences.

The Good Careers Academy, an accredited institution and part of Goodwill San Antonio, is helping meet this demand by offering an affordable Apartment Maintenance Technician program with classes starting July 20. Apartment Maintenance Technicians are in demand with the boom in construction of multifamily properties as well as the prolific number of existing apartment homes.

“This program is designed to create jobs that help maintain the infrastructure of multifamily properties,” said Dr. Anne Matula, Chief Education Officer for the Good Careers Academy. “We want to train qualified technicians capable of troubleshooting and repairing everything from electrical to plumbing and air conditioning.”

Offered over 10-weeks, or 200 hours, the program teaches core curriculum from the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Students will receive instruction in maintenance and repair in electrical, plumbing, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), OSHA compliance, and interior and exterior maintenance and repair.

Upon successful completion and work experience, graduates of the program will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible for the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT). Starting July 20, the program will be held at the Good Careers Academy located inside the Goodwill store at 12332 IH 10 West at De Zavala. Cost and fees include $1,450 for tuition and a registration fee of $50 paid upon enrollment. Books, supplies and uniforms are not included.

The Apartment Maintenance Technician program is part of Goodwill San Antonio’s mission to change lives through the power of work.
