FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AVAILABLE AT GOODWILL
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program returns to Jan. 20-April 15
SAN ANTONIO (JAN. 19, 2015) – Free tax preparation assistance for households making $60,000 or less is returning to Goodwill Industries of San Antonio between Jan. 20 and April 15.
Goodwill is once again joining the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a collaborative effort between multiple agencies that offers free tax preparation services to working families.
The service is available at the following Goodwill location:
- 13311 San Pedro Avenue (Highway 281 and Bitters Road):
Mondays through Thursdays, 2-6 p.m.; Fridays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Saturdays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
During the 2013-2014 tax-filing season, VITA volunteers operated 22 sites located throughout the city and completed more than 32,000 tax returns. Over $58 million in refunds were returned to the San Antonio community.
Trained VITA volunteers help individuals complete all necessary tax forms and help identify eligibility for special credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly or Disabled. "Goodwill strives to empower families through education and workforce training programs,” said Gail Ribalta, senior vice president of marketing. "The VITA volunteers will further help families gain financial strength and take advantage of deductions and claims they might miss without assistance."
Participants must bring their driver’s license or photo ID; Social Security cards or individual tax identification numbers for all members of the family; all W-2 forms, wage and earning statements; 1099 Forms (if applicable); a copy of their prior year tax return; bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit; total paid for daycare provider and the provider’s tax identifying number. Both spouses must be present to sign the required forms if filing jointly.
