GOOD CAREERS ACADEMY LAUNCHES MEDICAL SECRETARY PROGRAM
Classes teach valuable administrative skills sought by healthcare sector employers
SAN ANTONIO – A promising career in the healthcare industry is now more attainable thanks to the new Medical Secretary Training program through Goodwill’s Good Careers Academy.
Starting Oct. 14, Goodwill Industries of San Antonio will be launching the four-month program designed to teach key administrative skills.
“The curriculum is based on what we were hearing from local hospitals or medical practices,” said Mark Milton, director of workforce development. “This is an occupation that is in great demand at this time in the San Antonio community, and the curriculum has been developed by industry experts.”
The program will feature an evening schedule with a training emphasis in the following:
- Medical Terminology
- Medical Insurance and Billing
- Medical Coding
- Electronic Medical Records
Specifically, the course runs 231 clock hours over 21 weeks. Tuition is $2,450 and a registration fee of $50 is due at enrollment. This excludes the cost of books, supplies and uniforms. Medical Secretary Program classes will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Goodwill GCA on Interstate 10 West at DeZavala Road. Scholarships are available certain times throughout the year.
