FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR WORKING FAMILIES AVAILABLE AT GOODWILL
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Goodwill stores helps families file taxes, maximize returns
SAN ANTONIO - Free tax preparation will be available at two Goodwill locations for households making $60,000 or less.
The Goodwill stores will serve as a location for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a collaborative effort between multiple agencies that offers free tax preparation services to working families.
The service is available now through April 15 at the following Goodwill locations:
13311 San Pedro Avenue (Highway 281 and Bitters Road):
- Mondays through Thursdays, 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.;
- Fridays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.;
- Saturdays, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
3401 Fredericksburg Road at Vance Jackson:
- Mondays through Thursdays, 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.
- Fridays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Trained VITA volunteers will help individuals complete all necessary tax forms and help identify eligibility for special credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly or Disabled. Free electronic filing is available.
Participation in the VITA program is part of Goodwill’s Good Choices program, an initiative to help working families with financial, health, career and work supports.
Participants must bring their driver’s license or photo ID; social security cards or individual tax identification numbers for all members of the family; all W-2 forms, wage and earning statements; 1099 Forms (if applicable); a copy of their prior year tax return; bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit; total paid for daycare provider and the provider’s tax identifying number. Both spouses must be present to sign the required forms if filing jointly.
