The Power of Opportunity: Claire's Inspiring 26 Year Journey

Meet Claire,

For 26 years, Claire has helped serve shoppers, support her team, and uplift the community at Goodwill San Antonio’s Potranco store. But long before becoming an Assistant Manager, Claire was a 20-year-old immigrant arriving from the Philippines in search of stability and a fresh start in the United States.

Adjusting to a new country came with uncertainty and challenges. Wanting to support herself and build a better future, Claire worked two jobs, one of them at Goodwill. At the time, she viewed the position as a way to make ends meet, never imagining it would eventually become a lifelong career.

As transportation challenges became harder to manage, Claire was eventually forced to choose between her two jobs. She chose Goodwill, where she felt supported and understood during a stressful period of transition.

“My manager at the time, Mark, went out of his way to help me when my tire was flat after a long shift,” Claire shared. “It’s moments like those I’ll never forget.”

What began as a job slowly became something much more meaningful. Through the years, Claire found purpose in being part of an organization dedicated to helping others overcome challenges and create opportunities for themselves- something she personally understood.

“Being a part of an organization that helps others like me is something I’m proud of,” Claire said.

Today, after 26 years with Goodwill San Antonio, Claire’s journey has come full circle. As an Assistant Manager at the Potranco store, she now helps create the same welcoming and supportive environment that once made a difference in her own life.

Claire’s story is a reflection of the lasting impact compassion, opportunity, and the power of work can have on a person’s life.

Join us in congratulating Claire on 26 years of outstanding work and dedication to our mission.
