Evelyn: A Story of Persistence
During her teen years, Evelyn went through some hard times that led to a pregnancy, dropping out of school and serving a 3-year prison sentence. Hitting rock bottom, Evelyn knew that she had to make changes in her life. Through the Fresh Start program, Goodwill San Antonio helped her re-enter into society and earn a wage in a retail position. With the encouragement of her store manager, Evelyn applied to the Nurse’s Aide program. Her training and dedication led to a Supervisor position for a community healthcare agency.
Brittany’s determination and support from Goodwill Academy helped her overcome loss and homelessness, begin a medical assistant career, and create a home for herself and her six children.
A flyer and a phone call led Zackary to Goodwill’s no-cost Construction Boot Camp, where he gained new skills and support to pursue a career in construction.
After moving from Afghanistan to San Antonio, Mohammad turned to Goodwill San Antonio’s NXT Level program for support. Today, he has earned his GED, enrolled in college and is pursuing a future in technology.
