GOODWILL OPENS DEDICATED VETERANS ASSISTANCE CENTER   Starbucks, Walmart Foundation and JPMorgan Chase supporting Goodwill employment services for veterans SAN ANTONIO, TX (June 12, 2014) – Goodwill Industries of San Antonio is celebrating the grand opening of its Veterans Assistance Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 25th at 9:00 a.m. at 3730 N. Loop 1604 E. at Bulverde Road. The VFW Post 76 Honor Guard will present the colors, followed by a flag presentation by the office of Congressman Lamar Smith. The Honorable State Representative José Menéndez, Chairman of the House Defense and Veterans Affairs, and District 10 Councilman, Mike Gallagher, will speak. Representatives from the San Antonio Chamber, San Antonio Hispanic Chamber and Alamo City Chamber will also be in attendance.

WITH A BUSINESS MODEL BASED ON RECYCLING, EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY AT GOODWILL   SAN ANTONIO - The world will commemorate Earth Day on April 22 this year. But at Goodwill, every day is Earth Day. Goodwill operates one of the largest, most unique recycling programs in the area. The non-profit organization’s mission is to help change lives through the power of work. But because its unique business model relies on donated household items to sell at its retail stores, Goodwill recycles more than 13 million pounds of clothes, computers, appliances, household items, furniture, toys, books and other items each year, keeping still usable goods out of local landfills.

EXPANDED GOODWILL CONTRACTS CREATE OVER 130 NEW JOBS IN SAN ANTONIO   Ongoing military contracts to digitize military medical records grow by $6.5 million annually SAN ANTONIO - Goodwill Industries of San Antonio has created more than 130 new jobs locally through an expansion of ongoing contracts providing services to the U.S. Army and Air Force. The non-profit organization’s records processing contract with the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM), known as Army Record Processing Center (ARPC), has expanded from 57 to 144 employees, creating an additional 87 jobs locally in San Antonio. The four-year contract increased by $4.3 million each year with the expansion, bringing in a total of $7.4 million annually.

FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR WORKING FAMILIES AVAILABLE AT GOODWILL   Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Goodwill stores helps families file taxes, maximize returns SAN ANTONIO - Free tax preparation will be available at two Goodwill locations for households making $60,000 or less. The Goodwill stores will serve as a location for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a collaborative effort between multiple agencies that offers free tax preparation services to working families.
