Gently used gifts are a great choice at the holidays

With the holiday season in full swing, current trends indicate that shoppers are shifting their priorities to save money this holiday season by opting for gently used items that are affordable, meaningful, and that support local communities. As a result, shoppers are turning to their local thrift stores to find treasures that will bring joy to the hearts of loved ones. Goodwill stores are at the forefront of this trend, offering more than the traditional gift.

Most shoppers know that Goodwill was founded on sustainability principles and that we continue to be environmentally and socially responsible. In 2022, Goodwill is projected to repurpose approximately 20 million items for purchase both in-store and online. In addition to caring for the environment, sales from our donated goods retail stores help fund workforce training and job placement programs through our Good Careers Centers and Good Careers Academy. These services have assisted thousands in gaining employment and achieving financial stability.

With a vast selection of textiles, toys, electronics, home décor, and more, a perfect Goodwill gift is available for each person on your shopping list. Whether you need a vintage casserole dish for the meal that you’re taking to the holiday party, a picture frame to include in your DIY gift to cherish your favorite memory of the year, or something to give your festive outfit a special touch, you can rest assured that you will find that one-of-kind item for a friend, co-worker, or loved one. And although each donated good has had a previous owner, it carries a lot of meaning when it becomes new to someone else.

When you shop at Goodwill for the holidays, you’re giving more than just a gift. You’re giving someone from our community an opportunity to develop the skills needed for meaningful employment. This year, we ask that you join us in our commitment to help change lives through the power of work. Please visit www.goodwillsa.org to find a store near you to complete your holiday shopping or to donate your gently used goods.
