SAN ANTONIO, TX – (November 21, 2025) – Goodwill San Antonio, H-E-B, and the San Antonio Food Bank announce Carrying Goodness, a collaborative initiative encouraging individuals to donate gently used items to Goodwill in reusable bags, promoting sustainability while supporting essential community resources for job seekers and families facing food insecurity.
Originally launched in Austin, the initiative invites the community to bring their Goodwill donated items to any Goodwill San Antonio store or attended donation center in reusable bags instead of boxes or plastic bags. Once donations are processed, the reusable bags will be placed in the San Antonio Food Bank’s red barrels located at each Goodwill site and collected following normal pick-up procedures. The Food Bank will then use the bags to distribute food to families in need across the region.
In the weeks leading up to the launch, H-E-B partners collected reusable bags at designated H-E-B operation sites. On November 21, Goodwill’s Home Pick-Up team delivered more than 500 reusable bags to the San Antonio Food Bank, where H-E-B volunteers filled them with food items for distribution. Mascots Good William, Annie the Apple, and H-E-Buddy joined volunteers onsite to help introduce Carrying Goodness to the community.
The goal is simple: to repurpose for good. This approach helps reduce waste and keep reusable materials out of local landfills.
