2019 Halloween Costume Giveaway
Local Goodwill Partner Gives Halloween Costumes To Children
(SAN ANTONIO – October 30, 2019) Christophe Waggoner is a longtime Goodwill shopper. Since 2016, he has gathered Halloween costumes and accessories throughout the year to give away to local children.
Over time Mr. Waggoner has enjoyed seeing the joy families discover when they chance upon a hidden treasure in the stores, particularly during Halloween. However, he quickly realized that not all children have the opportunity, or ability, to purchase a costume. So, as he would peruse stores he began collecting clothing, wigs, and other accoutrements. He then washed, repaired, and repurposed the items, carefully constructing costumes from his Halloween collection.
This year Mr. Waggoner compiled over 100 costumes and accessories. He then selected a neighborhood, changing locations each year, to organize his costume pop-up. Grateful patrons often show up early to help with the set up. Returning families bring back costumes from the previous year so someone else can enjoy them.
"Thank you for being there for people who need you. If it weren't for Goodwill I wouldn't be able to help the children in my area enjoy Halloween. You are a very important part of my life."
Next year Mr. Waggoner will start from scratch as he gave away all his collection, but "No worries" he says, "I have already been to the outlet searching for next year."
Goodwill San Antonio is so much more than retail, it is truly about helping to change lives. Thank you to Mr. Waggoner and all our supporters for embodying the spirit of our mission. Fighting Poverty. Creating Opportunity.
