A Very Vintage Christmas: Sustainable & Affordable Christmas Decor
Well guys, it is finally that time of year! It always seems like a blur between Thanksgiving and Christmas so I try to make the most of the holiday decorations and have been known to start this season early!! ? I peeked into a few different Goodwill SA stores to see what I could find for this holiday season and was amazed by all of the options! It seriously had me questioning why I go anywhere else to shop!
Here are the key things I was looking for:
Goodwill always has a great selection when it comes to glassware. I can walk into any store and know that I will walk out with at least one thing from that section!
Goodwill always has a great selection when it comes to glassware. I can walk into any store and know that I will walk out with at least one thing from that section! This crystal bowl with the real silver rim instantly caught my eye. It even had engravings that indicate this was made in England- fancy!! The details in the crystal give this a more elevated look that can really be used during any season but works well as a candy dish for the holidays! I snagged this for $1.99.
I’ve learned that I have a preference for Christmas decor that accents the items I already have in my home. My style tends to lean more towards neutrals with mixed textures, so my holiday decor tends to be in the same vein. This glass Christmas Tree was the perfect way to incorporate my personal style into my holiday decor. Its intended purpose was definitely to be used as a candy dish but I thought it was too cute to not be on full display! Plus it was only $2.99!
I am a firm believer that you can never have too many vases. Not only can they be functional but they are an affordable way to add texture and make the perfect tablescape. These vases were all $1.99 and on a rotation discount so I snagged them for $1.09 each- a serious STEAL! I just added some seasonal floral from a local craft store and now my table is looking festive!
Alternate idea: If you have a real Christmas tree you can go fresh with your florals by cutting off some sprigs from your tree! This is a really simple and modern way to decorate for the holidays!
Adding a pop of texture is a great way to add dimension and interest to a space. When I spotted this bag of potpourri I knew it would be the perfect way to incorporate the changes of the season! By using natural elements like pinecones, twigs, wood and straw this accent piece is "Christmas" without screaming CHRISTMAS. The mix was actually for fall and had pumpkins that I swapped out for pinecones I found from from another mix. Each bag only cost $1.99! And the tray came from Goodwill as well for $1.99.
For a subtle and simple centerpiece - I used a decorative vase I had on hand and filled it with the leftover pinecones from the potpourri mix! I like using decorations that are consistent throughout my home during the holidays so the space looks cohesive.
3. WOOD/METAL ACCENTS:
Going along with my on-going theme of neutral holiday decor- I kept an eye out for items that were either wood or metal to add some warmth and contrast to my space.
When I walked into the holiday section at Goodwill I was instantly drawn to this wooden reindeer. I didn't know exactly where I was going to put it but I knew it would look good almost anywhere! Turns out, having this guy front and center in my living room was the perfect place. I loved the contrast between the wood and the white brick. This reindeer looks like it had a previously hefty price tag but I snagged it at Goodwill SA for only $5.99!
To keep in line with the reindeer theme - I found this bronze candle snuffer and instantly fell in love with all of the details on it! I'm a sucker for anything that is detailed, plus I love how vintage this piece looks. Keeping an eye out for vintage items like this keeps the price point low (this was only $5.99) but the space still looks sophisticated.
This brushed metal candle holder can be used in all seasons but is a great find for someone who prefers minimal holiday decor. The gold color adds warmth to any space and looks great when paired with some garland and lights! For an item that can be used in all seasons, is multi-functional and priced at only $2.99- I couldn't resist!
That's everything I picked up from Goodwill SA for the holidays- so far haha! Finding all of these unique items really just makes me want to pop into any Goodwill SA store to see what I can find! I hope this post encourages you to do the same. Shopping for holiday decor doesn't have to cost so much & you don't have to skimp on style when saving either! A win-win if you ask me!
Happy Holiday Shopping!
