President’s Welcome

bob_dugas2Goodwill has been serving the area for more than 60 years with a well established legacy of which the entire community can be proud. While we celebrate our history, we are continuing to meet the challenges of the future.

During the past few years, we have extended our presence beyond San Antonio to serve Seguin, New Braunfels and now Laredo, and we are still growing. Goodwill currently assists over 33,000 people a year with a budget of over $43 million. In only a couple of years, our goal is to help 50,000 people a year with a budget of $50 million - we call this goal the "50/50 by 2010 plan."  We can only achieve this level of growth with the continued support of our donors, shoppers, and business community.

We are excited about our efforts to serve people with disabilities and barriers to employment in new and innovative ways, such as with the opening of our Good Bytes Café. The Café is an internet café, open to the public, but with assistive technology designed to help bridge the digital divide for people with disabilities. We also launched "Good Health at Goodwill", a partnership with the Metropolitan Health District to offer immunizations and other preventive health measures right in our own Goodwill stores as well as new funding programs to offer our community small business loans and support, funding to help save for a vehicle faster than ever before and much more.  These new services are possible through collaborations with Accion for small business lending, the Ford Foundation and City of San Antonio for the vehicle savings program and we are actively searching for other collaborations in which to help provide a "hand up, not a hand out". Look for additional innovative services in upcoming years, such as a partnership with a local Credit Union to offer financial support and banking to the many we serve who are targeted for predatory lending.

Each dollar spent at a Goodwill store helps fund our job training and placement programs.  We appreciate the value of your generous donations; these gently used items are a vital part of Goodwill's "cycle of hope."  We work hard to maximize our resources, with nearly 90 cents of every dollar raised directly funds Goodwill's services.

If you are an employer, we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about helping to meet your hiring needs with quality-trained, work-ready, Goodwill graduates. Or, consider Goodwill when you are outsourcing business for document management, assembly, packaging and other projects.

Please enjoy this website that is filled with facts, figures, and faces of the people we touch every day in our mission to help change lives through the power of work. We invite you to speak with the people who work at Goodwill - at a store, donation station, military base or working on a contract around town, and find out first hand just what your support means.

We truly appreciate the trust and support you give to Goodwill.

From all of us at Goodwill, thank you for the past support and we look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,
bobdugas_sig02
