Mentoring Overview

The Mentoring Program's purpose is to provide participants with a caring and trusted mentor who will provide guidance, support and inspiration in order to help participants develop healthy attitudes and skills to become successful in their career and personal development.

The Mentoring Program brings together mentors and participants by matching them with partners according to similar backgrounds and interests. Mentors and Participants initially meet for approximately one hour a week at a mutually convenient time and location.

The Mentoring Philosophy centers on the belief that everyone needs someone willing to listen, share, console, reassure and inspire us. We call those kind of heroes Mentors.....

What will I do?

You will meet with your mentee at agreed upon times to share life experiences, to listen, coach and guide for approximately one hour a week at a mutually convenient time and location.

Testimonials

Javier came to Goodwill as one of our very first mentors. He responded to an advertisement in the paper for individuals to mentor ex-offenders as they began rebuilding their lives. He is a police officer and although his job often involved placing people in our justice system, he also had a sense that he wanted to help keep individuals from taking that path or preventing a reoccurrence. At first many of those he mentors are resistant and maybe a little distrustful of Javier; they have spent a lifetime running from the police and now they find themselves meeting with one on a weekly basis. Javier quickly puts them at ease and leads by example, providing encouragement and guidance as these men and women work to re-build their lives. Each week Javier brings lunch for those he works with and listens, guides and supports them on their journey. He is truly an example of the power of work-his work in their lives and his daily work to keep our community safe.
