Shopping Tips

Finding That Perfect Item

Goodwill stores are neatly organized by Womens, Mens, Childrens and Household areas. Clothing is colorized, so look for the rainbow pattern and select the color of the garment you are looking for and start shopping!

Specials

Each week, Goodwill marks down a different "color" for sale. For clothing, it's a plastic barb that is different colors based on when it was donated. For household items, look for a color sticker. Then, look for the sale signage hanging from the ceiling to match up your item to the "color of the week". It will be discounted according to a schedule of $1 off, $2 off, etc. This price is marked down from the ALREADY low prices Goodwill offers!

When to Shop?

As donations arrive, they are assessed for quality and priced. They are then directly placed on the sales floor... therefore, merchandise is brought out continuously! To find the best items at the best prices, shopping Goodwill frequently is your best approach.

Auction Items

Every store has incredible antiques and collectors items donated. When Goodwill is aware of the potential value of a treasure, we often place it in our glass cases near our Julia's Attic boutiques and offer the items as an "auction". Here's how it works:

  1. If you see a wonderful item in the case you want to potentially buy, a bid sheet will be attached that lists the "starting bid" and sometimes the "buy it now" price.

  2. Ask for a team member in a blue vest to allow you to place a bid. They will provide a notebook with all the previous bids for you to review. Place your bid on the sales sheet!

  3. The end date of the auction item will be listed on the sales sheet. Check back frequently to see how your bid is going, or use the "buy it now" option if listed.

  4. If you are the winning bid, store team members will contact you for pickup. You must pick up the item by the specified time or the next highest bidder will be contacted.

If you love EBay, you will love the local Goodwill version! Some stores are even testing out a live auction process at the close date/time for the item. Check with your nearest Goodwill store for these wonderful treasures.
