Formerly named the Javits Wagner O'Day act, AbilityOne is a set-aside program sponsored by the Federal Government. In essence, the Federal Government is the largest single consumer in the United States. With this vast spending power, they elected to set aside 1/2 of 1% of Federal spending on contracts that employ people with disabilities. Goodwill is a certified contractor in this area and the commitment is that any AbilityOne contract awarded to us must employ 75% people with disabilities performing any of the direct labor.

Goodwill has been working with the Federal Government since the early 70's and is a leader in this area, whether performing grounds maintenance, document management, facilities maintenance, postal services or recycling.

Working with the State of Texas

Goodwill Temporary Service (GTS) provides the State of Texas with clerical and professional individuals on temporary assignments within various State Agencies.

The State Agency contacts GTS with an official request (purchase order) that outlines the position requirements, duties, location and hours of work. The GTS team identifies qualified individuals and fulfills the request. GTS performs these services while working under a legislative mandate that 75% of the temporaries have a documented disability.

An individual may complete a GTS application at any Job Help Center, and individuals with a disability are encouraged to apply.

Document Management

Goodwill has a substantial history of providing document management solutions. Document management includes imaging/digitization, records disposal, filing/storage/retrieval, warehousing, workflow development and more. Because there are so many variations, please contact us and we'll work with you on a customized solution.

Facilities Management

Effective facilities management is invaluable. We understand your objectives then work to find what services are necessary to support the business. The condition of floors, lighting, HVAC and employee areas are monitored. Whether simply janitorial or higher level maintenance, all areas are serviced to your standards. Recycling Programs

There has never been a time when conservation was more valuable than today. The trouble is, it can take significant resources to effectively develop, launch and maintain a recycling program. Keeping your operations running while implementing conservation programs is a challenge on your own. But with Goodwill, we make it a seamless transition. We start with your objectives. Is the purpose of the program to recycle materials for responsible disposal or for your own remanufacturing? What materials are likely candidates for disposal? How are they currently distributed? When is the best time in the usage cycle to harvest the materials? Next, we examine the cost/benefit of the various activities. Working closely with your financial and management leadership, we help determine what is eligible for recycling and how to best budget for its removal. Finally, whether there is payment for the recycled goods or cost to dispose, we assist in negotiating the most favorable rates. All of this can be done without a moment's lost productivity using our highly trained staff.
