Before beginning any program at Good Careers Academy, each student is assessed to determine if any prerequisite courses are needed. These training classes equip students with basic skill sets that are transferable over multiple career fields. Other benefits to our basic training classes include:

Good Careers Academy currently offers the following basic training programs:

GED Preparation:

Good Careers Academy partners with Northside Independent School District to offer preparation courses to obtain your General Education Degree.
Tuition: $100

Microsoft Office:

This class gives you a head start towards your first career. You will learn the fundamental skills required to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
Tuition: $200

Computer Technology:

This course will give you the background and skills necessary to prepare for the Computer Support Specialist program. Skills learned include Windows, IC3 Internet Computing and Security Essentials.

With the combination of Alamo Colleges professionals and Goodwill's mission related case management services, students receive unparalleled support. This leads to successful course completion and ultimately career choices.

Good Careers Academy has partnered with some of the industry's most trusted employers and the Cisco Networking Academy to build a program tailored to give students a competitive edge once they are ready to enter the workforce.

CompTIA Certifications (Computing Technology Industry Association):

By completing a nationally recognized IT certification program, you can gain a highly valuable set of skills that makes you an asset to some of the industry's most trusted employers. Benefits to Good Careers Academy programs include:

After acceptance into the program, you will receive training for the following certifications:

A+ Certification:

A+ is designed specifically for entry-level IT technicians. The course covers preventive maintenance, basic networking, installation, troubleshooting and communication.

Network + Certification:

The Network + certification program is geared towards networking professionals. This course covers maintaining, managing, troubleshooting, operating and configuring basic network infrastructure.

Tuition Costs:

• $3,500
• Cost includes first round of exam testing
• You may be eligible for up to a 25 % discount

Class Schedule:

• The course is completed in only 4 months.
• Classes meet Tuesday through Thursday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Good Careers Academy located inside the Goodwill store at 12332 I-10 West at DeZavala.

The healthcare industry is one of the biggest in demand employment sectors in the San Antonio area. By completing a medical certification program, you gain a highly valuable set of skills that makes you an asset to some of the industry's most trusted employers. Once you are accepted into the program you have two healthcare fields to choose from:

Certified Nursing Aide (C.N.A.)

This course provides entry level training in the nursing field. Nursing aides help care for people with physical or mental illnesses in a hospital, nursing care facility, or mental health setting.

• Tuition Costs: $500
• Cost includes first round of exam testing.

Class Schedule:

• The course is completed in only 8 weeks.
• Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to noon or 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Good Careers Academy.

Medical Front Office

This certificate-based program provides instruction on office administration, medical billing/coding, HIPAA regulations, insurance vocabulary, and more. The course curriculum and instructor is provided by San Antonio College. A San Antonio College Certificate of Completion is provided to students who successfully complete the course.

• Cost includes first round of exam testing
• You may be eligible for a 25 % discount

Class Schedule:

• The course is completed in only 4 months.
• Classes meet Tuesday through Thursday from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Good Careers Academy.

Pharmacy Technician:

• Curriculum and Instruction provided by San Antonio College
• Internships available with H.E.B and C.V.S Pharmacy
• Exam and licensing administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
• Training completed in only 3 months!
• Cost - $2,500
• Class times Monday - Thursday 9am-4pm

Business Office Technology:

• Latest industry trends in Office Administration and Clerical skills training
• Curriculum and Instruction provided by San Antonio College
• Certificate of Completion provided by San Antonio College
• Training completed in only 3 months!
• Cost - $2,000
• Class times Tuesday and Thursday 6pm-9pm

Goodwill partners with multiple best in class organizations around the community to develop course curriculum, create internships/externships and mold the Good Careers Academy into a sustainable center for excellence. Our Industry Alliance Councils provide input to our services and then ultimately hire Academy graduates in fields such as Healthcare or Information Technology.
