What We Do
While most people are familiar with our retail stores, Goodwill also operates a successful Work Services (Contracts) Unit which has dynamically grown and expanded in recent years. In the 1970s, Goodwill San Antonio was the first agency in the nation to take on a contract provided by the Javits-Wagner O’Day Act (legislation to set-aside government contracts to employ people with disabilities). Currently, Goodwill employs over 300 people in 40 diverse commercial, federal and state contracts.
Our first contract was in furniture refinishing, but with the community’s evolving needs and advances in technology, we have expanded our contract capabilities. Goodwill manages contracts ranging from document management for Randolph AFB Personnel Center, to packaging for entrepreneurs, to painting and landscaping. We are proud to be the fourth largest contract services provider in the nation, amongst 170 other Goodwill locations.
 Goodwill’s history of success and development of working relationships with our customers has resulted in rapid expansion and growth to meet our customer’s needs. Our commitment to quality and customer service has earned us over a 90% satisfaction rating for multiple years with our customers. In addition, Goodwill believes in delivering a quality product and results. We are one of 5 out of 170 Goodwills in the country that have achieved ISO 9002 certification in our contract areas. In 2006, we became the first non-profit to be awarded the Texas Award for Performance Excellence.
